Maanrock is a Belgian open air festival in the center of Mechelen.

It takes place annually at the end of August. The main stage is on the Grote Markt and the side stages on the Botermarkt and the IJzerenleen. A youth day (Saturday) and a family day (Sunday) have been chosen.

Maanrock had its first edition in 1996 and grew to be the largest and most visited free rock and pop festival in Flanders. In 2005, more than 120,000 people came to Mechelen, a record.

De Lokerse Feesten is a ten-day city festival that takes place during the month of August in Lokeren, East Flanders, Belgium. The Lokerse Feesten took place for the first time in 1975.

What started as a small-scale party, organized by the local youth centers and some enthusiasts, grew into a fully-fledged 10-day (city) festival in 42 years. The festival site on the Grote Kaai currently has a capacity of 15,000 visitors. The term "Lokerse Feesten" has become a collective name for all activities within those 10 days in the city center of Lokeren (just as happened with the Gentse Feesten. During the Lokerse Feesten, visitors can also visit the Fonnefeesten, a second festival site, which takes place is located in the Princess Josephine Charlottepark, which used to be home to the Polifonics festival, which had its last edition in 2013. Up to and including 2014, the Fonne parties took place at the Oude Vismijn van Lokeren, after which they moved to the current location.

The Sidmouth Folk Festival celebrates 65 years in 2019, recognised as a huge cultural highlight in the South West region, marked by its prestigious Blue Plaque status – awarded as part of BBC Music Day – and acknowledged as a national treasure by festival goers from across the country and wider world.

Pukkelpop is a three-day festival organised by Leopoldsburg’s Humanistische Jongeren (“Young Humanists”) which began in 1985. Pukkelpop started life as a small, local music event before becoming an outdoor alternative festival. Pukkelpop has now become one of Europe’s greatest music events.
The festival is a complete experience, and one which has been promoting community relationships for over 30 years.

Pukkelpop selects a musical line-up with an alternative fringe. Almost 200 current musical sensations, living legends and visionary alternative artists all come to perform on one of our many stages. Pukkelpop opens up a world of possibilities, from hi-octane rock to low-fi singer-songwriters, bright splashes of pure pop to banging house and hot metal. Petit Bazar and Salon Fou usher in street theatre, entertainment and well-being in all senses of the word. Food Wood serves up dishes from around the world whereas Baraque Futur focuses on sustainability.

It all began 40 years ago as a Midsummer’s Fest at Bachmann’s Water Mill on the Vidå River in Tønder. In June 1974, a bunch of young music enthusiasts organised a three-day event of folk music, ballads and beer in the Old Mill, which soon became known as the Song Mill.

Three days of music
Enthusiasm was plentiful, and the group put on yet another three-day session in September that same year. On stage on both occasions, incidentally, was a Scotsman who has ever since been a loyal musician, presenter, media consultant, and general support for the Tønder Festival: Rod Sinclair.

Carsten Panduro
Founder activist Carsten Panduro was Festival director for four decades, up to August 2014 with the title of artistic director. It is not too much to say that Carsten Panduro – latterly with Anni Lehmann– created and consolidated the spirit and ethos, not to mention the lofty standards, that are Tønder Festival’s signature to this day.

The First Festival
The first real Tønder Festival took place over three days in August 1975. The music programme was eclectic– from the Slesvig Infantry Regiment Music Corps to beat groups like Alrune Rod and Taurus, the latter better known later as TV-2. Steffen Brandt was telling the truth when, as Niels Hausgaard’s guest in the Culture House in 2006, he announced,“It really is a while since I played at Tønder Festival.”

Main Square Festival is held in the town of Arras in Northern France during the first weekend of July. Its first edition was held in 2004 and since then, it has had some impressive lineups with gigantic names such as Metallica, Iron Maiden, Radiohead, System of a Down, Muse and Coldplay. A nice feature of this festival is that many of the acts are being filmed in high definition by an on-site professional crew and shared for free on the web.

The festival site is in the town of Arras, just a pleasant 20-minute walk from its main square. It has two stages, the Main Stage and the Greenroom, which host artists from various music genres.
